Faire Dates: March 8 & 9, 2003
Year faire was set in: ???
Noteable Characters: Queen Elizabeth
The Story: To be honest I remember very little of the story line from this faire.
Review: On a general note this is usually my re-integrating faire. I tend to pay little attention to story and/or performances, but focus on renewing friendships and getting reacquainted with some of my favorite booths.
Overall, the site is very small but it has it's charms and is quite comfortable. You can easily explore the grounds in less than an hour, which makes it rather easy to find your way around. Be on the lookout, though, there are many hidden treasures. The small layout makes this a perfect faire for a day-trip. You won't walk away feeling as though you missed something important. On the other hand, those folk that visit for the entire weekend may get bored. In order to battle that tendency I spend one day shopping and another day gigging, running around, and watching performances.
I had the time to watch several shows this faire:
Myth and Magic - If you remember back in the day these guys used to do the "Weasel Dance" which they make a reference to in the show. Pretty much this is a comedy routine with some basic sleight of hand tricks mixed in. While their transitions in and out of tricks are very smooth these are all tricks I learned the secrets of when I was a kid. One trick, however, did leave me holding my breath and I can't quite figure out what happened, but I'm not going to spoil the surprise. This is a cute show, but you can only see it once or twice. I know myself, if I were to see it again I'd start calling what they were going to do before they did it, and I prefer to heckle jugglers.
Adam the Juggler: Okay, I admit it - I'm a juggling junkie. I love to watch juggling shows - quite possibly because I've never been able to juggle. Adam has great comic timing and juggles very well. His shows are amusing, and since juggling is an imperfect art there's always something new to see. And I'm proud to say I made him lose concentration three times in a row because I was laughing (think of laughing in a bodice - very amusing) and sitting right in his line of site.
Out of Kontrol: Yes, another juggling show. I make a point of getting to at least one Out of Kontrol show at each faire they perform. These four: RJ, Tommy, Boggess and Dusty have one of the best acts on the California Faire circuit. They're an endless source of amusement and very talented to boot.
